In the current human production, life, polymer materials, metal, ceramics and listed as three of the most important materials. With the rapid development of the national economy and the further expansion of the market capacity of polymer materials products, as well as the support of the government departments to the polymer materials industry, China's polymer materials industry shows a good development trend.

At present, the macromolecule material industry in China presents a development trend from structural materials to functional new materials, from single materials to composite materials, and from simple formula regulation to predetermined performance production.

1、From single material to composite material development: composite materials can overcome the shortcomings of single material, give play to the advantages of their constituent materials, expand the application range of materials, improve the economic benefits of materials. At present, the development direction of polymer materials is to change from single to composite. Among them, polymer resin is the main matrix material of structural composites, and many high-performance reinforcing materials are also composed of polymer materials.

At present, glass fiber reinforced resin composites, also known as "glass fiber reinforced plastic", have been put into large-scale production and application, accounting for the vast majority of polymer matrix composites, mainly used in transportation, construction, shipping, home appliances and other fields, and will continue to develop in the future.

2、Development from simple formula adjustment to predetermined performance production: With the development of production and technology, people put forward a variety of new requirements for the properties of polymer materials. To further improve the high temperature resistance, wear resistance, aging resistance, corrosion resistance and high mechanical strength is an important direction of the development of polymer materials, which has an extremely important role in the field of aviation, aerospace, electronic information technology, automotive industry, household appliances.

The development trend of high performance polymer materials mainly includes:

2)The polymer was modified by changing catalyst and catalytic system, synthesis process, copolymerization, blending and crosslinking, etc;

3)The aggregated structure of the polymer was changed by a new processing method;

4)The polymer material was modified by microcomposite method。

3、From the structural material to functional materials development: functional polymer is a vibrant new area in polymer science, is currently in the early stage of development, but is very extensive and active on research, development, innovation, and has been making progress on the depth and breadth, emerged a large number of all kinds of high functional polymer materials.It mainly includes electromagnetic functional polymer materials, optical functional polymer materials, material transport and separation functional polymer materials, catalytic functional polymer materials, biological functional polymer materials and mechanical functional polymer materials.
